Default Would a Cowl Hood affect my engine?

I was looking at adding a cowl hood to my blazer, because if you look at my pictures, you can see that the air filter has been changed to the pan style with no tube. I feel that adding a cowl hood would help it suck in cold air. My friend is saying that it has having cold air blown over the engine anyways thru the grill, and that by adding the cowl hood, it would actually harm (in performance terms) the engine because it would suck in too much cold air, especially in winter time..... is this possible, or true? My friend who I was talking to is a mechanic.

Would the vent on the hood be open near the grille? Or closer to the wind shield like 05 Blazer's?

Either one will reduce under hood temperatures. Don't worry about the cold unless you live in CO,MN, AK, SD......

I would be looking at getting the reverse cowl, so it would suck the air from near the windshield. And, I live in Kansas, and we can get pretty cold, near zero sometimes.

I have a cowl hood and the vent comes up at the windshield, looks great, as you can see in my pictures in the profile, but i havent noticed any problems w/the engine at all. Nothing ever happens when it comes to temperatures and things.

and you being in OK.... that's about almost as cold as Kansas can be..... so you haven't noticed any problems with it taking to heat up in the winter time, or get to operating temp like it would normally?

I trust what my friend says, because it used to be his blazer before I bought it, and he knows the thing inside and out.
