You can bolt it on with hangers, that's how my buddies truck was when he bought it. Just has the u shaped bolts. If you'd like it welded most muffler shops won't charge much if you bring them the muffler. And as long as you use a offset single input/single output with I believe a 2.25 inch pipe, you could use your factory pipe. Measure your pipe first to determine size before you order.
Hope this helps.

I was going through all of my subscribed threads, and found this one again. Haha. No, my thrush rusted out, but I didn't notice it until I crawled up underneath the car to run a pipe through my plugged up cat. I pulled the exhaust of as one piece, still had the entire piece left with the stock muffler sitting in my garage. So, I ran a pipe through the cat and put my original muffler back on. I have never heard a better 4.3. I don't know about the Vortecs, but the TBI sounds incredible with a gutted cat and stock muffler. It's quiet, until you get on it, and you kind of cringe from happiness as you go through a town or tunnel from the reverberation. Seriously, if legality isn't your issue, run a pipe through the cat and throw a stock or close to stock muffler back on there. Getting a pretty hefty 1 mpg improvement, too.

Glad you found something you like, and didn't cost you anything score! lol
Sounds like it would be good, but where I have to have a modified inspection sticker they can tell when they are gutted. I don't know how they do it by ear but even if it's not crackling and popping on acceleration and with no emissions equipment, they have got my family and friends with punched out catalytics before.

I've found that turbo mufflers sound close to stock, but flow much better. They have a deeper and slightly louder sound than stock since they're more opened up inside the muffler and the passages are much larger but they still control sound very well, at least if the piping size is kinda small and the motor is stock. I have heard Dynomax Super Turbos on a 65 Chevelle with a blown 468 and those sound mean as hell but on a stock 4.3 with a 2.5" exhaust, a turbo muffler would sound real nice when you get on it but be stock quiet cruising, and it flows better. Those are always what I put on a car when I want stock sound but higher flow, which is what every car needs IMO.

I'll look into the high flow mufflers, but the gutted cat has opened up a ton of power. Even with the restrictive stock muffler, I'm averaging 1-2 more MPG. Most of the modifications I do are for better fuel economy, and since I drive like a Grandma, I'm running like 23 MPG. In an SUV.

Hey guys, I was just wondering what the best muffler would be for me. I have a 98 Blazer 4dr and I want something that has that nice deep sound, but isn't as loud as some of the options mentioned here. I like the sound of the Super 44, something like that but quieter would be awesome.

Since you like the 44's maybe a flowmaster 50 series would work out.

You'll open up just as much power if not more with a new muffler, i'd say a Thrush/Dynomax Super Turbo is what you want, they sound closest to stock. They're just about silent at idle and cruising but when you get on it you can hear and feel a difference over stock.

And to Mitchy, give the Thrush Welded a try, I put one on a 96 Silverado 4.3 and it sounds awesome, not too loud but real deep sounds like a V8 idling. It's also half the price of a Flowmaster 40.

Id there anyone who has used magnaflow who has a specific muffler or part# that they would suggest? I'm looking for more info then just a company name. I like the flowmaster 44 on my muscle car but I dont want constant rumble. Just when I get on it. I watched many videos on youtube of the 4.3 with all different exhaust and I like the magnaflow the best. Just want more info on it. If anyone has anymore info please feel free to share. I think I am going to just buy the tailpipe and weld on the muffler of choice and I already bought the magneflow bolt on cat. Thanks in advance.

Well i dont know the numbers off hand but ive heard a magnaflow 14" and it was pretty nice. Magnaflows never been loud enough for me but it was decently loud. An 18" has the same tone just quieter from the extra length
