Default looking for the right note

OK, so I'm pretty much stumped here... I've got a 383 with headers and dual exhaust, and I'm trying to find the right mufflers for it. It has none on it now, which is the case with my '79 C-10, but this thing is a lot louder than my other truck. I'm looking for some mufflers that will give it a retro, mellow but agressive note. I've been searching all over youtube for sound clips of anything I can find but not many of a SBC let alone a 383. I can't afford $100 a piece mufflers, but I can't deal with how loud it is, especially not with hunting. Any suggestions?

flowmaster 40's are in my opinion the best, but if that's too loud try the 50 series from flowmaster.
