You mean the difference between the Super 44 and Super 40 correct, not the original 40?

Either one, I don't really know too much about any of them.

The Super 44 is designed to flow better than the original 40 and have a cleaner sound, but it's just as loud if not louder than the original 40. The Super 40 is just like the Super 44 but it has a 5" case diameter so it has a deeper tone, in fact besides the Delta Flow 30 series they're the deepest Flowmaster makes, aside from the quieter mufflers like the 50 and 70 series, the Super 40 and Delta 30 are the deepest louder mufflers.

Personally i'd wait on those, the 5" case mufflers currently aren't made in stainless steel yet so i'm not about to pay $100 for an aluminized steel muffler that's gonna rust out in a couple years, if it's gonna rust i'll stick with cheapo $15 glasspacks.

I put on a super 44 with the stock tailpipe.
I think it sounds great.
It's not as loud as a bigger pipe might be, but i don't need to be waking up all my neighbors in the middle of the night.

I'll have to fully disagree with you, Ive had both and the 44 is definatly deeper and less raspy, the 40 kind of had a tinny sound to it and LOTS of snap crackle pops. but i also dont have a cat and a different tip, maybe that made a difference.....
