Default 1989 K5 Blazer

I have recently bought a 1989 K5 blazer from my dad. I want to put a set of 35in tires on it and was thinking a 4in lift. Would a 4in suspension lift be enough? And is there a way to build one ourself? We have a fabrication shop but mainly mess with motorcycles and classic cars so this is new to us. Thanks for the help.... Matt

4" may not be enough for 35's.

You can get around 4" with a shackle flip in the rear. Check out OffRoadDesign.com for ideas.

Front suspension gets a bit difficult to DIY without buying springs.

I would not do blocks if you can help it. Springs up front and then a shackle flip in the rear and you should be good to go with out any added axle wrap potential.

A 4" lift kit and 33"s will work just fine. If you want 35"s then you may have to do a little fender trimming, not a big deal. You should be able to pick up a 4" lift that includes new front springs, rear blocks, all new u-bolts and all 4 shocks for under $500.
Yea, I really don't like going more than a 4" block do to axle wrap issues. Also, never use blocks on the front, very dangerous. Post some pics!

Steering creates torque in several directions at once which increases the chance of failure. If a block fails in the back you're probably only looking at a funky ride til you can come to a screeching halt. If a block fails in the front you could lose control much easier and roll.

Ditto what oisinirish said... I learned this the hard way when I was a kid and totaled a damn fine 65 chevy stepside.
