I have a 2001 blazer w/ trailblazer package 4dr 4wd coming August 1st, and i have several questions..
1. what is my best option for lift to accomodate 31x10.5 tires, atorsion bar lift and shackles or an out of the box suspension lift kit? I only want 2-3" lift so i can run 31swithout any rubbingproblems (NO TRIMMING!)
2. I've seen mention on some of the available lift kits that the rear bumper will no longer be good for towing, is this in reference to THE BUMPERor THE TOW HITCH?
3. What do you reccommend as far as manufacturer?

1. 2' body lift is the best way to sure fire clear 31s. You can do the tbar+shackles but you risk not getting the full 2', then you wont clear 31x10.50s without rub, and you risk balljoints and CVs. Box 2' kits come with new upper control arms to fix the ball joint problem, but you still risk your CVs. One thing to note: Even with a full 2' of tbar+shackles lift, you still might rub with 31x10.50s at full lock, on the frame. Only way to fix that is with new rims. 5' of backspacing seems to the best to clear larger tires and not rub frame or fender.

2. The hitch will be fine post lift. I towed an ~3000 lb trailer with my 1.5' of suspension lift. The body lift is what gives you bumper issues. The bumper gets repositioned in a body lift with an extension bracket, so people that tow from a bumper mounted ball (max of like...600 lbs?) can no longer tow that way. The hitch post-body lift simply sits at the normal height, unaffected, while the bumper goes up.

3. Superlift seems to be the best, but I believe the Rough Country 2' kit uses SL upper control arms. Not sure what the Trailmaster 2' uses part wise. For shackles, I would recommend custom made ones from either 3 Leaf Fab or Synergy Offroad.

i just looked up the trailmaster 2" kit all it is, is a add a leaf thats it. http://www.racepages.com/products/?N...294967264+9968but i only found it for the s10 but it should fit the blazers also.

wow wolf, thanks for all the info! Ok, sounds like a 2" suspension lift with 5" backspacers, new longer shocks and bump stops(what should i go with?)and 31X10.5s (finally a reason for pissed off fender flares!) should be fine. i just need to keep an eye on the ball joints and cv? (what kind of lifespan should i expect for them post-lift?) I am also not opposed entirely to a body lift after the suspension lift, however the center of gravity issue scares me when im wheeling in colorado, being as a tip over would include 1000 ft+ falls

edit: by 2" suspension lift i mean 2" rear shackles from synergy offroad and cranking the tbar key

 

LOL! more from me.... from what i understand, if i do any real offroading on this blazer with the torsion bars cranked up they are just going to snap on me

 

not so much the TBs you have to worry about... its the cv shafts that tend to "snap"...

 

Haha oh yes...those dang CVs...

Although I wonder what would happen if a torsion bar snapped under load....those suckers have like 4000 ft-lbs of torque on 'em under load...
