i find shackels alot easier the add a leaf. ive only had experinces with shackels tho. there not much diference with them add a leaf, ubolts and shackels all do the same thing.

I did both on mine, adding the extra leaf was easier than the shackles because my bolt were seized in the bushings so I had to get new bushings as well. The add-a-leaf will help out when towing or hauling anything and the shackles won't.

It's a good idea to get new hardware regardless of which one you end up doing before you start. Bolts for the shackles, and u-bolts and center pins for the add-a-leaf.

The other thing to remember with the add-a-leaf is that while it will make it so your back end doesn't sag as much when carrying a load or towing, it will also make the ride stiffer in the rear when you're unloaded. This may be fine depending on what you want.

i have a add a leaf and it didnt make it any stiffer, still rides like a certain buckin little paint baby i know. i think thats due to the cheap **** shocks i used. i did notice however it didnt seem to lift it the full 2 inches like it says it would. on the shackle ive heard that it adds more side to side sway sometimes but dont know for my self

If lift & load carrying is what you want there are air bags you can add inbetween the leafs & frame. I'm thinking of that for towing the boat to level it better.
If the leafs are flattening out without a load then consider replacing them & based on how that goes, think about shackles &/or add a leaf or possibly air bags that naturally are adjustable depending what you need at any certain time.
