Body lift question
I dont have the money for a PA body lift and I want a little more lift than my tbars cranked and an add a leaf. Was planning on throwing a hockey puck under each body mount to raise it an inch. But here's the question, do I need to do all the relocating and extending of stuff or can I just toss them in there and be good?? Ill probably be tackling this on my own in one day so i dont want too much work. Any help would be a appreciated, thanks.
You'll have to modify some things. My 89 had a three inch body lift and the shifter for the transmission and the transfer case had to modified. Also the stock fan and shroud had to go. I'm sure there's more that I'm missing, but it's a safe bet that you'll be doing some mods.
Hockey pucks are illegal lifts. Some might argue offroad they work but I've seen what happens when the rubber pucks give out. Save your money and do it right, bls don't cost that much. Its better to be safe than totaling out a truck.
Yeah id much rather wait than have my truck fall apart on me. It was just a spur of the moment idea i had while working on it. A guy comes into my work each week with a 4 inch puck lift on his blazer. I dont want to see what happens when they give out on him.
if u do body lifts bigger than 2" ul need to relocate ur oil filter on a gen 1, ur tranny linkage will need extended, trans case shifter modified, fuel filler neck extended, fan shround bottom removed, and all the lines that run thru the drivers side frame rail into the engine bay need to be watched and fixed accordingly. but they r nice to have besides the tbar and shackle.
If your only going for 1 inch ( one hockey puck ) you will be OK , more than one is probably not a good idea because they will try to flex . I'm a licensed motor vehicle inspector and it is not illegal here . I have read in other threads about peoples body mounts rusty right through and pushing there bushings through the floor , now thats not safe .
So non safety approved and not dot approved lifts are legal in ny.
We only have headlight and taillight height laws for lifts but hockey pucks fall under safety violations. No inspections but if you get pulled over the pig has the right to inspect. Most every one I know will looks for stupid stuff like that.

I have not had one come threw our shop with hockey pucks yet , and o yea we look for all the stupid stuff , But if only one was used per mount I would probably let it pass and if the police want to cuff and stuff me so be it . Just like you can't fail a ball joint and thats worse than what we are typing about , we all know what happens when they fail .
