ZUK MOD? What is it?
 

I have a 2 doors 1989 S10 Blazer 4WD 4.3L TBI 6Cyl.
What's a ZUK MOD lift, how much lift will it give me, how will it affect the ride/handling, and how difficult is it to be done (over 10, as 10 is most difficult).

ZUK mod is a modification a guy did back in the late 80's or early 90's on a Susuki Samurai that he was turning into a mini monster. He earned the nick name "Zuk" (pronounced zEWk) as a result. That stuck with him, and since one of the things he did was inventive for it's time, that mod became know as the ZUK mod. it is done to toyotas commonly now. :icon_steer:

I learned all of that through 2 web pages the first time some one brought it up like 2 weeks ago... :icon_deal:

Now what it is: a coil spring on your bump stop where it lines up with the center of the leaf spring.

How will it affect ride/handling: well if your 4runner is sagging in the rear, and you dont want to fix it right and get new leaf springs, just get some coil springs from a CJ jeep (looks for specific year) and drop them over the metal V that the bump stop hits center of the leaf on the frame. slip the other end over the bump stop and now it will sit up where it was supposed to and not slam down on the bump stop (as hard) as it used to.
Since these are only 100-125lb springs think of it like 2 guys pulling up on each side of your body. :icon_shrug:

Difficulty: unknown since s10 bump stops are not centered like they are on the toyota truck (4runners) that they are most commonly done on. :icon_really:

I did Google it + Wikipedia. Nothing on Wikipedia, and nothing but for Toyotas on Google.

So as I understand from you; it can be done only for the rear axle on an S10?

I saw that thread, but wasn't sure if it was something only for the rear axle or not, as all posts were saying how it's done, but none said specifically that it's only for the rear. Thought there's another thing of the "ZUK MOD" for the front!

so far....

The toys have the luxury of the rear axle being under the springs. More surface for the coil to be mounted, less work to install. For an s10 I think a bracket/plate on top of the leaf spring u-bolts would have to be done. Also if you Google ride rite air spring helpers you can see how they mount the air bags. It's not just a simple drop in for s10's, hence why it's probably not as common.
