1995 blazer, rear wiper issue, pic disassembly

My rear wiper motor, don't work, worn,damaged plastic gear picked up a used one and same problem. grr.




So, I decided to try and take one apart. To see if I can fix it and put it back together, but also answer a old question I seen on here.


Some have asked, can I just rotate the gear around.


The answer is no.


once you have the black plastic cover off.

I ground off the head to remove the top bracket.

Once you have that top bracket off, then with some wiggle it will come off, then you see the plastic gear.


you have to get behind the round black pressure washer to pry it off to remove the plastic gear.

now you have to remove the rest of the gear to fully remove the plastic gear. comes off with some tweaking and light prying.

Now, you just have the gear. the pin thru the back on the other side, you can tap out. to get the gear out.

Now this answers the question people have asked.


can I just rotate the gear, the answer is no.


on the back is copper. metal plate circuit., it can n ot be easily rotated, without some major cutting into the plastic to make the grooves and slots, so it will fit right,.

That's all I have for now. I am hoping to use my plastic heat gun, to rebuild the gears and recut them with a dremel.


I do not know until I try if it will work or hold.


I am thinking of using polyethene, that's the repair plastic that came with my plastic weld kit, for atvs, repair plastic.


This might not work, I have to get all the grear and ect off, first to get a good melt.


my 2nd thought is, if this does not work, to try a harder or different type of plastic.


Id like to find where I could just buy the darn gear.

re assembly I do not think will be hard. I am hoping I can fix or replace the damaged clip with a new clip or grind the shaft some of the one pin, to use a c clip to hold it, grind a groove.
now, the very first one I took off, I had to grind flush and I do not think I can get buy with a clip or anything.


my first thoughts on this is either a small pop rivet or j/b weld or a small tapper and screw, or even one of those pressure sleeve pinch pins.




So I am hoping I will find and get something fixed and back together, and work, and work, longer then just a few days, lol.

I tried the polyethylene on gear. Did not melt/ stick right. I think this is a Teflon plastic gear.


Have to think about what to do or try next.

might be easier to find one in a junk yard than trying to fix this particular gear. once plastic is worn off something it is very hard to add it back to it.
