Default 1st Gen Blazer interior lighting problems

Alright first off hello everyone. I have a '94 Jimmy SLE 4x4 Vortec power windows locks and all that good stuff. Here's the problem, the interior lights, all of them front/rear domes reading lights and the little map lights under my rear view mirror stay on 24/7 365. Now the previous owner removed all of the door jamb switches so maybe that is the problem? But I replaced the dimmer switch headlight switch any way being as I was told the lights stayed on before he removed the door jamb switches. So all I need to know is, could it be lack of switches in the jambs, is there a switch for the lift gate somewhere? Or is it something entirely different??? Either way I need help, so please share your knowledge oh forum gods.

Maybe check to make sure that when he removed the switches the wires aren't grounding out.

No switch on the tailgate. At least not up to the '92. I would definitely suspect the door jam switches as the culprit here. Check each of them for proper operation. I'm not sure if they're supposed to be normally grounded or normally open though. Also, make sure the dimmer switch isn't turned all the way to the ON position.... It wouldn't be the first time one of us missed something so simple as that. If I remember I'll try to get a copy of my hayne's manual schematic for the lighting controls. Maybe that will help.
good luck!

Yeah, I would say to check the door switches. My 01 used to leave the lights on all the time because the door was sagging and so when I closed it, it wouldn't operate the switches properly. Drove me nuts so I finally got my dad to help me put in new hinge pins and bushings to stop the sag, no problems at all since then.

The schematics would help thanks but as far as the switches there aren't any in the jambs previous owner removed them. I guess picking up a new set is something I should do either way. As far as the dimmer switch turned all the way on thats the first thing I checked. All the bulbs are removed from the interior now and have been for the past three years, the problem has been on the back burner for a while... I'd greatly appreciate the schematics though thanks.

If I can get to the wires I will check them, can I remove the kick panels up front to get to them the wires arent visible. Also should the wires be connected to close the circuit?

Ok I found the schematic for you.

It looks like the door jamb switches need to be left open if removed. beyond that, there's a whole bunch of switches for you to check here. fun fun
good luck

Thank you sir! Now I need to figure out how to view this image so I can read it. As of now she's a big blur. I don't guess the book said anything about rear hatch switch for the lights on 94's? Thanks for your help so far man I've been stumped on this problem for like....when was Clinton president??

Ok are we all ready for this?? I'm almost made enough to jump off a bridge, so in the back of the truck there's a cargo lamp with a switch, that switch controls ALL INTERIOR LIGHTS. Its been on for 3-4 years, and I'm an idiot and have been for 3-4 years. So problem solved hopefully thanks everybody.

Yup that will do it! AFAIK no first gens had a rear hatch jamb switch. I've added my own which is nice. Less chance of leaving the rear rocker switch always on
