I hope this is the right area to post this..

on my 2001 Chevy Blazer that I bought last month, Autozone and my friend with an OBD II scan cannot connect to the ODB port.

and am beginning to think that my vehicle is not a DTC connector but a modified ALDL even though the above posts refer to 1995 vehicles. The reason I've come to this conclusion is because on the 16 pin OBD port... the only active pins inserted are on 2, 4, 5 and 16. 2=J1850 Bus+ 4=Chassis ground 5=signal ground 16=battery power.

Does anyone know if this is standard on this vehicle? I looked for a sticker that would tell me if it was OBDII compliant or not but can't find one. Can anyone help me on what or why this connector would be this way and if it is possibly ODBO I. The trouble icons work, i.e. SES.

I'm pretty sure all Blazers went OBD II in 1995. I own a '96 that's OBD II compliant and all the other 95 and up I've seen have been. I've heard rumors that some Blazers made in/for other countries were still OBD 1 and may have still had throttle body EFI instead of multi-port EFI. If your Blazer was manufactured in the US (VIN number starts with a 1, for example 1GNCT18W2VK215448) after 1995 it should be OBD II compliant. I'd suggest checking your DTC connector for any damaged pins/broken wires.

There should be an emissions label on the fan shroud under the hood of the car. It has a GM logo on it and probably says "CATALYST" in big letters near the top. Somewhere on that label, probably underneath the CATALYST letters there will be a bunch of stuff like EGR, EVAP, and if your car is OBD II, an OBDII should be on there.

 

Thanks.... I tested the ground and power pins and the module does receive power but Autozone and a friends scanner will not connect to the OBD II module. I read somewhere that with the GMC that it could only be read with a dealership scannner? I don't know how to test the pins without possibley damaging the module and don't want to buy a scanner if it's not going to work.. any suggestions?
