Default 2WD/4WD light not coming on

I’m having an issue with my 97 Blazer 4x4 4DR vehicle. A couple times a week I’ll notice that the 2WD light (floor shift from for 2WD & 4WD) is not on. When that happens the vehicle operates like it is running out of gas. When I notice it I usually have to bump the floor shift console and then the light comes back on and I’m able to drive normal again. Any ideas? Your help is appreciated.

Something new to add. Now if the light turns off it usually takes a couple minutes for me to get the light to come back on. Before I was able to slightly move the console and it would come on. Now I have to move it back and forth for a couple minutes.

Any ideas?

Maybe a corroded or loose ground? Can you take the panel off the Floor Shift module?

Or... although this is more farfetched... but you might be slipping out of 2WD, which in that case would probably be a transmission issue.

Is it chugging forward like maybe its slipping gears or something similar?

Don't think it is slipping out of gear. I'm able to put it from 2WD to 4WD with no issues. The only time I have the “bucking” and loss of power is when the light goes out. Maybe it is a loose ground. I wasn’t sure how to take the floor shift module apart so I haven’t attempted that. If you know of any illustrations on how to do that please let me know. Thanks!

I could tell you... but I'd probably be wrong lol. I'm assuming the plastic around it pops off... but I don't have a 97 so I don't even know if plastic is around it lol. I'm just guessing because they seem to plastic-ize everything past like 94 lol

Still unable to find any info on this issue. I did verify it is not a loose ground. Would appreciate it if anyone is able to help. Thanks!
