3rd Brake Light Problem
98 Blazer:
Similar question about the under hood fuse box. The owners manual shows a "VECHMSL - Vehicle Center High-Mount Stop Lamp" on 6-60 & 6-61. The fuse position is in the lower right corner of the fuse box. It looks like "a big one" but the amps aren't listed. There isn't a fuse in this slot in my box.
Is this the same "third brake light" we're talking about with its own fuse, since its an LED... or a different optional animal.
I need to invest in an ohm meter as well to see if power is at least getting to the connection.
I got 2 LED third brake lights for a whopping $4 yesterday at the local pull-apart. Neither one worked when hooked up. Will try them on a 12 volt batt later this week...
BTW, taking the aft header apart by the aft courtesy light is simple.. a steady but gentle tug on the plastic from one end working your way toward center will release the underside retaining clips. No big deal.
When its off you can finger fish through the dome light hole or frame area to grab the 2 wires coming from the LED strip. Undo the the electrical clip and check the amps for power.

Trailer wiring? Check the light blue wire. If it works, it's on different fuse. So go back to the vechmsl fuse and test for voltage both sides.
Note that Cruise 'disengage on brake' also uses this fuse
Volt both sides, check for volt going into housing. Note it is also light blue wire.
If volt on light blue going in and light doesnt work check OTHER wire. If volt reads on it, bad ground
If no volt anywhere above, Crawl under dash and note 2 white wire from brake switch, one of them has come loose.. OR..
Go to Underhood FB look for light gray connectors, wiggle test wires while helper watches
Wire from Bl SW is C1 D11
