Default 91 Distributor issues

Hey guys, new here to the forum...Ive got a 91 S-10 P/U with the 2.5 4 cyl. This truck was given to us and someone had replace the distributor before we got it, so I dont know the original distributor to block posistion. Truck was needing new plugs and wires so I replaced them like they were, truck runs but spits and backfires through carb. So I then checked the Chilton book witch shows #1 posistion on the cap and firing order( clockwise 1-3-4-2) and according to it the wires were on wrong, changed them according to book...problem was worse after. Can someone tell me the normal distributor to block posistion. Then I can try to see how it goes from there. Thanks,Mike
