96 Blazer-Dome Light Timeout?

96 Blazer-Dome Light Timeout?
Are the dome & courtesy lights supposed to time out after being turned on by the instrument panel dimmer switch? I have killed my battery several times by forgetting & leaving it on .I am aware that this is a switched ground circuit, and know the "lamp control module" is located.
Is this an engineering oversight for this model year ? A while back I obtained a domelight timer from "Polytron Corp" DL-10, this is a switched positive device. I don't see an a easy of cutting it in.
Any ideas, suggestions?

I dont think the time out after being manually switched on. The lights on my 97 don't anyway, until the battery dies that is!

I don't think they were doing the time out until around 2001-2002....could be wrong though.
But, my 03 TrailBlazer will time out after being manually turned on(that just sounds wrong). My kids will leave them on all the time, but it will still drain the battery and if the battery is on its last leg it could drain it completely. I think it is like 10-15minutes then it will go out. Keep in mind that this is each individual light being turned on, not being turned with the switch on the dash.

I don't think there is a way to upgrade it to a time out feature. I've thought of looking in junkyards for a 2003 GM truck, but then there could be a significant configuration change either plug type or number of wires to make it feasible.

IIRC, on my '00, if you set the alarm the dome light goes off after a set amount of time, even if you leave it on. Now the map lights are a different story I think.
