Default 96 Chevy Blazer Brake lights don't work

I have a 96 Chevy Blazer and the brake lights quit working. I had an auto shop tell me that the turn signal switch needed to be replaced. Does the turn signal switch affect the brake lights? The turn signals work, the wipers work. It has crusie control on this switch also and the crusie control does not work

first step is check the actual bulbs. ive seen plenty of times where both brake lights are out and i start thinking its the brake switch or a fuse when its just the bulbs are bad.

i think on some cars the 3rd brake light goes though the multifuction (Turnsignal switch) switch but been a while since i ran into that problem. i might be thinking of it the other way around.

my brake lights quit working from time to time, its in the hazard switch, $175 for a new multi-function/hazard switch assy, hoping to find a way to bypass the hazard switch altogether, i can always tell when it stops working as the indicater light on the brake controller wouldnt work either. i unhooked the brake controller and still have the issue so i know the problem isnt in the brake controller.
