I just love that truck.

Turn everything off and wait 30 min until the computer is powered down. Put your meter in dc amps on the 10a scale. Touch the leads to both the battery positive and the positive cable and then disconnect the battery maintaing the connection and report the parasitic current draw. If you wake the computer up by accident, keep eveerything connected until it all powers down and report. You have to get a little clever with a side mount battery.

i’ve never had to do a parasitic draw test on my blazer so I grabbed a meter to see how our trucks behave. The old trick of maintaining contact as you disconnect a positive cable from the battery is probably not necessary with a modern meter because I broke the connection and then inserted the amp meter and drew about 2 A momentarily. Most modern meters are fused for 10 A so that shouldn’t be a problem. In less than a minute it had dropped through two stages first to about 800 mA and then to 65 mA. Three minutes later when everything went completely asleep the current draws 5 mA. Conventional wisdom says your stand by current doesn’t need to be that low but let’s see what you get and we’ll go from there.
