PLEASE HELP: I am completely stumped.
97 blazer, key starts getting stuck in ignition. Able to wiggle and shake it to get it out for a few days. YES, I K OW ABOUT THE CYLINDER YOU PUSH UNDER THE DASH TO RELEASE THE KEYS, THAT IS A TEMPORARY FIX AND DOESNT SHUT OFF THE PARASITIC DRAIN.
goes on for a week or so and happens about three times. Then I am driving to work, and the engine shuts off mid drive. Keys stuck in ignition, will not start. When i push keys all the way forwar to START position it acts like it is in the ACC position right after OFF.
something drains battery overnight.
I have replaced the ignition switch, the battery, the Alternator, and the igntion cylinder. I have the passlock system and know that the new tumbler needs to be reprogrammed, but the new key and tumbler is immediately stuck in the cylinder and when I push it forward to start the passlock relearn system there is no security lights, no power to anything except clock lights.
the park linkage appears to be lined up correctly. I do not think the 97 has a BCM because i cannot find one anywhere.
what am I missing????
Thanks

I am by NO means an expert on the electronics on these trucks but I DO know that if the battery is dead, it won't allow you to pull the key out for some reason. Mine has been stuck like that until I threw jumper cables on it and then it would release the key. As for the parasitic drain... That one is a real PITA to track down because you're going to have to check every fuse (and hope that narrows it down) and or/ track down an open ground fault somewhere in the chassis. Your BCM should be under the dash behind the fuse block, you'll need to remove the lower steering column cover and knee bolster to get at it. Should be two plugs coming out of it. You'll have to take the fuse/junction box out if you want/need to remove the BCM. I would recommend having the alternator checked out (I know you just replaced it) because there's a thing called 'alternator death' that happens if you install a new alternator but you have a dead battery. All alternators aren't created equal either, I went through about a dozen Autozone alternators before just giving up and buying one from NAPA for a Pontiac Sunturd I used to own. Lifetime warranty or not, I was sick of changing them out over and over again. If you need the Blazer as a daily, there's always the 'keep a spare battery in the back' and a charger at the house method. Either way, you'll need a solid charge on the battery while it does the relearn since it'll be ON for THREE 10 minute cycles back to back to back. If you stop midway, it doesn't work.
