Default Key comes out of the ignition SOMETIMES...

I just bought a 97 blazer, and they key only comes out of the ignition sometimes, usually it gets stuck though. And by stuck I mean that you can turn the truck on, and off, but it won't go back into the "neutral position" on the cylinder in which the key can be inserted and removed. Also, when the key does come out of the ignition, I can then insert and reinsert the key over and over, but the next time I go to put the key in the ignition after waiting some time it will get stuck.

The guy I bought it from said it might have had something to do with the security system, don't know how that would tie into my problem, anyone know if there's any truth to that?

i dont think 97's had security systems, but i doubt it anyways, i would just get a new lock cylinder and call it a day, im guessing either the key of cylinder is worn and wont relase the key

yeah that's the most likely problem, just checking to see if there was something else it could be first. is it a paid in the *** to change out that lock cylinder?

Yeah, I would also assume it has to be your lock cylinder.

This article may help you a bit with figuring out the removal.

Give some powdered graphite a try. A little lube may be all that is needed.

I have a 97 Blazer my self and it does have a security feature, if you remove your battery and your key is in the ignition it will not release it, so my guess would be to check you battery to see how the charge is on it if it's low that could be the problem and if so check your alternator as well
