Default Aftermarket fog lights

I installed a new to me brush guard, and 8ve now bee looking into fog lights. I was wondering since mine has the factory fog lights, could I take the wire for those and hook them up to the aftermarket ones? Or even splice into those wires and have another set running off of them? I'm not electrically inclined, but if you explain it to me, I'm sure to figure it out!

I can't think of any reason that wouldn't work.

It probably won't be a problem if they're LED's. You'll just need to keep the amp draw below the rating of the fuse that protects them.

I'm going to add a couple more to this thread, just in case someone is wondering the same thing.

So I picked up a set of fog lights for 10$ to try out my theory, they are not installed yet, but I will update this thread if t works or doesnt, just in case someone else is wondering.

I've got my eye on this one... I wanted to do this, but opted for running new wires and relays. I've pulled all that old wiring and have been waiting to install the newer wires. Looking forward to your progress.

Default Splices

Using the existing wires will work fine. As previously mentioned, make sure the watts/amps are similar to the stock lights. I would hook up to existing wires as opposed to splicing into them and running “taps”. Automotive wiring is a frugal beast and splices/taps should be avoided if at all possible. If you do tap them, be sure to use water resistant connectors and stabilize the splice so it doesn’t work loose over time.

Ok, so it's not a finished product, but I wanted to do a little to see if itll even work like I wanted, and it does.

So for a test, I stripped some wire off the positive to the fog light wire, and added my positive to my aftermarket wire.

I grounded the light to the mounting bracket and brush board.

The lights come on with my factory fog light switch.

Ground wire

Positive wire

Turned on(passenger side not wired yet)

Got it all installed.

Positive from aftermarket to positive of factory.

Negative of aftermarket to ground on brush guard.

Will take nighttime pics when it gets dark.

Whoa, nice work! Might have to try this one myself... But then I won't need my cool lit up rocker switch. Lol
