First thing is to check for error codes.

Then check electrical grounds perhaps since you described the whole truck shutting down.

What is the condition of the battery? What about the alternator? Is it charging properly?

With sudden cutouts it may not even record any codes. For the ECU it's like the key has been turned to "off".

Christine's advice is sound.

Battery
Connections (including grounds)

What comes to mind in addition:

Theft protection or alarm
Ignition switch

I'm moving the thread to the lighting & electrical section.

Dont cut up your wiring harness. Check for loose connections perhaps main cables in the inst cluster. I read where one issue was loose solder points on the cluster itself. I just resolved my starting issue with a new dist cap after trying fuel test and new battery. Cheapest parts fixed my issue. See coil wire is loose and if cap has any moisture in it clean it with stsrting or electrical connection cleaner and scrape off any carbon build up or replace all together
