Battery Died FAST!

Battery Died FAST!
Not sure why, but my battery died fast.
I was taking my hazard light switch out to replace it with a new one, so I disconnected the battery to avoid continuous horn honking at my apartments.
I disconnected it before doing much work. The doors were open for a bit while prepping, but for no more than a few minutes, so the lights were not on for too long. Disconnected the battery and got to work on the button and a few other things. Went to hook it back up, hit the ignition, nothing but a dim light. Not even a sound of the engine TRYING to turn over. Went back to look at the connection, and discovered the positive cross threaded. Pulled it out, and tightened it up properly. Hit the ignition, same thing. Nothing.
I am just puzzled why, while being disconnected, the battery would go from working fine, to dead in the period of a half hour....
it is a bit old, in 2007, so maybe I need a new one.
More time to mess with it I guess.

Be sure to double check your work where you replaced your Hazard Switch. Check the batt with a meter and see what its reading after you charge it. Also, make sure the terminals & posts are clean and snug.
