Default The beeping death......

My youngest daughter has been driving my 2000 LT for awhile now. In the past few months the battery will go dead about once month. She says when she gets out of the rig sometimes it will beep like something is left on and the next time she goes to start it, it's dead. It happened again yesterday so today I looked into it. The battery was dead. I put a meter on it and it was at 1.8 vdc. I hooked jumper cables to it and had to charge it for about ten minutes before it would start. After starting it I measured the alternator output at the battery and had 14.35 vdc ruling out the alternator. I currently have a battery charger/rejuvenator on it.

A little info on my rig: The sun visor lights were disconnected a couple of years ago due to the switches sticking and draining the battery. I've also disconnected two of the roof console map lights due to bad switches. I've installed led bulbs everywhere that doesn't need a resistor. Last year I had a dealer install a new transmission shift cable because when my neighbor did a fluid change he messed it up. The shifter will not go into D1 and sometimes the key won't come out when it's put in Park until the shifter is pushed towards the dash board. Does anyone have any ideas on what direction I should take to trace down the cause?

When I got my jimmy, the rear window would latch. But stayed shut enough not to turn on the lights. Killed the batteries everytime.

If you go to YouTube and search “Parasitic Draw Chevy Trailblazer” the mechanic (with the hat on) does a nice job demonstrating how to track these migraine inducing problems down.

I checked the rear door latch and rear window latch. Both were secure. Even though the rig was locked I did push the window release button and the window opened and the security alarm went off. Shouldn't the window release button be inoperative when the Blazer is locked ?
She gave me some additional info also. The security light flashes while the beeping is taking place. Don't know if that helps point the issue in a certain direction or not. I told her to record what it's doing next time.

I watched a few different parasitic draw videos. I'll get my meter out and see what I can find.

The daughter said today that when it started beeping again she moved the shifter towards the dash and it stopped. Thinking it's got something to do with the installation of the shift cable by the dealer.....

The beeping and the security light being on suggests to me that your Blazer "thinks" the key is still in the ignition as I believe that the beeping and security light going on is part of the reminders that you need to remove your key.

That you have had trouble with the shift cable is also a clue that there is something going on with the ignition switch which is interlocked with the gear selector (I believe). It could be that it is the gear selector is not moving the correct place to indicate it is in Park and appropriate to remove the key that is triggering the beeping and the truck's accessory or ignition circuit staying on when you think it would off.

Christine, what you describe is what I'm suspecting is going on. It started after the dealer installed the new shift cable. I think the ignition cylinder is ok.
