Default Brake lights don't work, everything else does

Truck won't pass inspection because lower brake lights don't work. 3rd brake light, turn signals, and flashers work. Have a ticking under the dash in glove box, so I replaced the relay. Mechanic says it the multi-function (turn signal) switch that comes out of the steering column. Is this the only fix, and how hard is it to replace? Best place to buy parts? 98 Blazer 2door 4wd, LS with cruise.

did you try to wiggle the hazard switch??? i just messed with mine today. luckily we dont have inspections like that because i currently have electrical tape holding it in the right position. i had to tilt mine towards the shifter so that it would make contact.

^x2 Mine needed to be pushed toward the front of the car to work correctly.

I've tried it all. Ripped the switch out of the steering column last night, and now the truck won't start. Says SECURITY on the dash, probably because I was screwing around near the ignition. Got the part on order but will be down a week until it arrives.
