Default roof lighting question..

ok in my pic i just did a test wire straight to battery .. im trying to figure out where to run the real wires at.. im going to have two main switches (one for the two centers and another for the two outsides) ... do i make a small enough hole in the roof and run wires through there then silicone it when done?? or what else can i do?? lol im used to running foglight wire right through the front bumper so this 4x4 stuff is new to me

With my old lights I had a hole right into the luggage rack and the wire went through it then down the plastic along the door, then to a switch, then battery.

But with my new lights I have what you were saying, 2 switches for the lights but the wire goes right along the door and up to the top of the door to the lights. If you want any pics of how mine are wired I can get some.

that would be quite helpful... i have my toggle switches right where the garage door opener thing is and didnt reall want to pull tyhe headliner down so where the center thing is (all the holders and lights and outside temp thing on the inside) on the roof i was mayby going to drill a hole there but im scared its going to leak there

I lifted the factory roof rack and drilled a hole under the foot and ran the wires out the inside of the factory roof rack foot. Then I trimmed the foot pad so the wires would sit in the gap created by the missing pad. I also used a grommet in the hole I drilled to protect the wires. Then I plugged it up with some silicone for good measure! No leaks yet I made a custom switch panel for all of my switches so I'm no help there lol. I have pics of everything somewhere in my build thread. Sorry not sure which page tho

This is the hole on the luggage rack for my old lights.

This is how they are wired now... Not the best but it will do for now.

These are the switches... they look bad but oh well...

The wires from the switch come out from the obd port.

This is the ground for the lights, right beside the e brake.

And this is where the wires come from to the lights. Right under the pedals from the engine bay.

Then the two wires (one for each switch) go to the battery. There is a 30 amp fuse on each one.

I did this in a hurry but if you have any questions just ask me. Also Don't put them through the door like I did make the hole in the luggage rack for the wires. Not only will it look better but you wont have to worry about the wires, I just did it because I was in a hurry..

i ran mine inside the roof rack (tucked the wires inside the C channel) to the back hatch then all the way back up...you can do it that way without drilling holes BUT ...you should run a bigger wire if you do it that way cuz of all the resistance from having wire strung out that far lol (found that out the hardway after burning up the stock wiring almost lol)

thats how i had mine run atleast

I ran mine under the windshield rubber trim with a pair of relays. I can get pics for you if you are interested.
