Default dome light/heater fan

Something very odd is happening with my '98 ZR2 Blazer.
The dome light flashes on and off very occasionally, seemingly related to bumps in the road so I thought it may be a door switch until last night. It was cold last night so I had the heater on when I noticed it.
The faster the fan motor setting was the more often, longer, and brighter the dome light would come on. It was so annoying I pushed the button that disables the dome light.
I'm an older guy and haven't worked too much with "newer" vehicles. I'm good mechanically but the auto electrical stuff gives me the horrors!
Has anyone had a similar problem, hopefully with a solution? Can someone point me in the right direction? I'll really appreciate any help.
