Default Embarrasing headlight question...

Hi All,

I know some of you will roll your eyes in disgust at my ignorance, but hopefully I can still find some helpful souls amongst the rest of you ;-)

I have a 97 Blazer LT and I'm sick of the horrible head"lights". I want to change to HID but I don't know if I can. I want to be able to call a shop and tell them what I have so that they can look it up (maybe some will be able to help me here too). All the people who've done HID here, and posted pics, seem to have headlights that look different then mine. I have two stacked "compartments", with 2 bulbs.

The top bulb turns on when I turn the lights on
The bottom bulb is on during DLR and when I turn the brights on.

When I looked up my owners manual, this is what it said :

Halogen Headlamps, Sealed beam - quantity 2 - 2E1
Halogen Headlamps,Composite beam - quantity 2 - 9006 HB4
Halogen Headlamps, Composite beam - quantity 2 - 9005 HB3

Do I have sealed beam? Is there even a way to make this HID? Has anyone done it? Any pics/info?

I'll try to get pics of the headlight on later, since I haven't seen anyone else with this headlight!!

I couldn't upload a picture from my phone, so I found a picture online of what it basically looks like.

do the 98+ headlamp conversion, you wont regret it. I got all my parts brand new for a little over 300, minus the HID's

you do not have a sealed beam headlight. this is a pic of a sealed beam... http://www.autopartsfair.com/images/...4510877osr.jpg

if you want to install HID's You need a 9006 HID kit for the low beams and a 9005 HID for the High Beams.

PM this sponsor to get a deal on the kits...

also, you could look at ddm tuning for your hids. i know it isn't a sponsor on the site but they have some great kits and prices are within anyone's price range.

your headlight size is the same as the 98+ models other than the fact that your headlights look different. You can tell the difference between sealed beam and "composite" headlights is that sealed beams are one bulb for both highs and lows and when you replace the bulb you are replacing the whole light. I actually like the look of those headlights better than the 98+ headlights...

thanks for the answers guys The shop I'm taking it to called today and said they were able to find a kit for me, but they want to put 10K. I think that's too blue. I'm going to do research on here to find a color that more represents Xenon. I think that's like 6K, right?

imo 6k is still kind of blue. I have 4k and they are white with maybe a blueish tint and the kc's are supposed to be 4300k but halogens and xenons are a little different

10000K's are getting into the purple range and may be illegal in your area. I have 7000K and its a nice blue color. Also the higher the temp color, the dimmer the light is, so a 35w 7000k is brighter than a similar 10000K.
