One would think the acid would eat right through it. Where is it crack? Top, Side, where?
When I was in the Army and station in Panama (A very long time ago) we use to have a battery rebuild station, the guy would cut the tops of the battery's off, straighten the plates out and put new acid in a reseal the top with heat, no silicone. like burning the plastic together...

It was cracked on the very bottom near the corner
I used my map gas torch and heated a screw driver tip cherry red and ironed / melted the crack over in a well ventilated area
refilled with acid a couple days ago and put on a battery charger
all looks good
