So at first, my truck came without a needle on the gas guage. Today I went to the local pick a part and grabbed me a whole new guage. I first put the needle on the guage already in my truck and nothin happened. Then I put the new guage on and it worked!!! BUT, I watched it go waaaaaaaay past full haha. Any ideas on what it could be?

so today I tried again and put the needle on the original guage and it worked! But then when I tried replacin one of the lights behind it, I put the guage back in and it went the opposite way... What's goin on here and how do i fix it?!

usually if the indicator needle goes all the way beyond the normal limiits in either direction, it's due to an open or shorted ground at the sending unit. I know that one direction indicates open, and the other indicates shorted, but I don't know which is which.

unfortunately, getting to these wires to troubleshoot isn't very easy. Not sure how much you've dug into it so far. but to me it sure sounds like the root if it is wiring-related. That's about all I can offer, I usualy pay to have someone fight electrical issues for me, I don't usually have the time needed to trace it all out.

Thanks, I'm gonna check that sending unit out soon. Now I can't remember what I did but now it's just stuck on 1/4 tank and hasn't moved for weeks.

Yeah, my car does the same thing but I just haven't had the time to try to fix it but I have a feeling it is electrical related.
