Fuel Pump noise

1994 4x4....my electric in-tank fuel pump emits a loud whining after I shut motor off after a short idle. Longer trips, no noise. Is this a sign of emminate fuel pump failure? Thanks

try turning key to on position and listen for fp buzz for roughly 5 sec, if not you have a definite problem.

last year my pump started to make that noise.
the next day the truck would not start because of a bad fuel pump...
