Default GM Part # for alternator

I have a 2004 Blazer Extreme. It has 108K miles. The alternator needs to be replaced. Does anyone know the GM Part # for a replacement?

I have a friend who is, granted, a certified Ford mechanic. His advice was to ONLY use an OEM replacement. He said in his experience he's not had good luck with aftermarket alternators, which is why I was looking for a GM Part #. I've called my local dealer and they'll be happy to sell me one, but they won't tell me the part #.

Do you folks agree with my friends statement or am I wasting my money on an OEM replacement?

Thanks in advance!

You are confusing OEM replacement with Dealer retailed part. The key is the brand name, in this case. Eg you're looking for AC Delco or Delphi depending on the part.

Check Rockauto.com

And BTW.. Ford tech, GM tech.. ASE cert.. no matter! Rank dumbasses can have their own opinions... people that never passed freshman year college can be smarter than a PhD. Depending on experience and subject matter.

Seriously? That site has a fail-safe application system. The price looks pretty good for an OEM part but they wont let you finish the order without positive verification of fit.

Sounds like what you want to me.

Or you can wait for someone to give you the GM p/n which you are STILL going to have to verify by double-checking fit.

Let me give you a hint, though... if your voltage goes down and lite comes on at highway speed what you want to do is rap firmly with wrench -not hard- on the back of the alt, if it starts charging again then go to NAPA and get a brush set.

That's what I do. Why take a chance on a rebuilt.. there I agree with you and your ASE bud.. when you have an otherwise Known-good part. Never failed me yet.

You can get the GM part number from Compnine.com's diagrams. Look up your application (it'll be in the light truck section).
