Default gray connector on coil. What exactly is it for?

The tab that holds it onto the coil broke a while back and now its slowly making its way off the coil to the point that it barely makes connection and the blazer shutters and pops upon hard acceleration. I know the white wire is for a tach, and i think the pink is power. Does the pink power the coil its self? I was just trying to figure out why the loose connection makes such a severe impact on the engine. I guessing the red powers the coil, and the coil is cutting out upon high acceleration and causing the shutters and missfires/backfire. Weird thing is the engine light never came on,but it works.

Im hitting up the pull it yard later to get one.
