Default Group 78 battery in 2002 Blazer?

It's time to replace my battery and I was wondering if a group 78 battery would fit my 2002 Blazer LS 4x4. I know the battery is longer than a group 75, but was wondering if I could mod the battery tray slightly and drop in the 78.

I have a Optima 34/78 yellow top in my blazer with no mods required what so ever. The only thing I didn't do was secure it with the factory battery hold down block but it has never moved nor caused me any issue.

I think I might have jumped the gun then. Was doing a lot of searching online and couldn't find anything here, but on the S-10 forum a few people did mention having luck with dropping a 78 right in. In the end I settled on an Interstate Mega-Tron Plus 75DT. I wanted the dual terminals as my current "big 3" mod is a little sloppy. My soldering job wasn't the greatest so I ordered screw based ring terminals and for the battery connection I ordered 2 multi-guage screw terminals as I will also be adding a sub to my setup.

Thanks for the replies though! The information is always appreciated!

EDIT: Had to have the battery ordered by a local Firestone shop. I just called to see if I can get the order switched to the MTP-78DT. An extra 150 CCA and 190 CA for $20 more really isn't bad.

I have a 34/78 Deka Intimidator in my '01 Jimmy. I had to grind the tray a little to clear the corner of the battery and I have to take the cap off the radiator to remove/install the battery, but otherwise it fits like a tight glove.

Here's a couple of pictures of the modifications I had to make.

Here's a shot of the battery itself.

Here's a shot of the corner that needed modified.

Here it is after modification.

Finally here it is tucked down in the truck.

So yeah, as the others have stated, if you're willing to modify then you can fit just about anything anywhere. As for the batteries, not much to modify if you even have to.

Called back over to Firestone and the 75 was already on its way for delivery. I'm sure I could have made a little fuss and asked that they get the 78, but at this point I don't think I'll lose any sleep over it. The extra CA and CCA would be nice, but not really necessary. It gets cold here in NJ but nowhere near as cold as it gets further north.

Again, thanks for the replies!
