head light help.

I'll bet you got them with a standard ballasts & not a digital ones. That being said I got that setup a long time ago & they'd flicker when I started the truck. Sometimes they'd both stay on, sometimes not. My quick fix was to flash the high beams & they'd both turn on... it just became a PITA after a while.
I'm not sure where your or if you have DRL's but if you installed the HID's in the lights that are also the DRL's you'll have issues.
HID's don't like the low power DRL's get. What do you mean by auxiliary, manually turning the lights on?

A good quality kit will not have these problems. But simple troubleshooting will find out what the problem is, HID's do not like DRL's.
one thing if you have a problem, is try reversing the polarity of the bulb in question.
second, check your grounds, it may seem good, but it could not be, also, check the factory wiring, make sure all your plugs are clean, and corrosion free.
