IGN/GAUGE fuse kept blowing for 2 months. todays blog etc blah blah.

for months, randomly out of nowhere my 20 amp ignition/gauge fuse would blow randomly, usually upon acceleration. Ive got a aftermarket head unit, digital to analog cluster conversion and random other its and bits. When it blew i lost my speedo, oil gauge,my brake light would come on (rawl system) and my dome light would die. I HATE electrical work on automobiles. For a while i was able to just replace the fuse, and it would work for weeks (yea yea i know, bad idea to just change fuses).
anyways...I went fishing all night last night, slammed a 32lb catfish, got home and did the brakes on a friends astro van,got close to home and this kid was at the 4 way stop with his hood open in a kia car. I asked if he needed help,he said the car made a bad noise and died, and would only click when you turn the key....guess what? LOCKED..surprised? Not me.. Anyways upon leaving the guy my fuse popped again! this time every fuse id put in would pop...so......I ended up spending 2 1/2 hours going through wires. Removed the cluster, head unit, rpm gauge, etc. Found zip. Got on google and found a thread about a ground strap behind the distributor that could be the issue. Found a diagram of the wiring from swartlkk. (thanks again man for taking time to help people). I looked in behind of the engine with a led light...after a few min of wiggling wires what did i find? The pink/black wire was rubbing on the engine bracket that you use to remove the engine. BINGO! found the lil ****. I used some of that liquid electrical tape and rotated the bracket away from it. Fuse didnt blow when i replaced it..
Man whatta day..Now off to install a gangbox for a waterheater for my stepdad.

i ran into this issue with the 20g CTSY fuse. tried a 25. same problem. also a 30 was the same issue.. ran out of higher guage fuses and had to try a 15g bc it was the highest guage fuse i had left... it has been in for almost a month now and is still working.
conclusion: (baffled my mind, by the way) use a lower guage fuse instead of trying more power.. worked for me..
hope this helps!

mine seems to blow about every 4 hours just about once every trip out with it. so my way of fixing it is i just ran the fuse up to the dash board so i can easily swap it out. the truck is a offroad truck so its really not that big of a deal as it only gets driven 3-5 times a year, the problem i run into is i lose 1st gear when it blows so if i have to do a hill decent its not much fun without the engine compression breaking.
mine has something to do with the transmission. basically if im in second and throw it into first going a little to fast it will pop also
