Looking for some documentation or how-to guides for fog light installation for my 2002 LS. I have the wire harness for them and the placement where my tow hooks are.
I just need to get a headlight switch panel that has the fog light switch on it and some advice on installation. Has anyone installed fog lights on S10 Blazers before?

 

Are you wanting to install them with a factory wiring harness?

If so, I'd have to look but I think the factory switch is an intermittent switch that triggers a relay.

 

I tied my added on ones into the parking lamps. Just tapped into the 12+ and ground wires on the parking light circuit and use that to trigger the relay in the fog light harness.

I used lights taken off a Corvette, ironically the brand on them is Blazer, so I felt them fitting Put some 55 watt HID's in them and the output is great and they have an awesome cutoff beam pattern. Have almost as good output as low beam headlights.

 

That's looking pretty nifty.

With the grill off, I have these two connectors. I assume these are for fog lamps.



I'm not looking to get creative with the wiring. My hopes are to find something plug & play for these connectors.

On the dash, I have this light control switch.

It's missing the switch for fog lamps, but I've seen one on Amazon with the switch I can order and install it. l've taken the dash bezel off before so I know there is a blue connector behind this light switch that doesn't connect to anything yet. I assume that controls power to the two empty plug under the grill.

Everything on my Blazer is stock OEM.

I don't do any serious off-roading. I live near several back roads in wooded areas, so I thought having the extra light would help. There are several deer in my area.

 

I believe the connector laying mostly on the bumper has the outside temp sensor connected to it. That clips onto the back of the radiator support.

You might have to add the wire harnesses from a donor.

So as for the plug and play....not sure it'll be that easy. Might have to reprogram the computer....BCM, I reckon.

 

If it didn't come with fog lights, it's no prewired for it unfortunately.

The two plugs there are outside temp sensors, one for the display in the overhead console. The other one with nothing plugged into it is for models equipped with the automatic climate control. Plugging lights into those will do absolutely nothing for you, plus the wires are WAY to small of gauge to run lights on...

You'll have to wire in your own circuit for them.

 

Okay, so there's no wire going to the front for the lights.
What about the blue plug behind the light switch that doesn't go to anything? Is that still intended for fog lights on the switch panels that have it? And if so, would I be able to wire aftermarket lights to it? What I don't want is to strap down a remote switch to the dash.

 

I've never tested for power at that plug, but I know that my 04 that didn't come with fog lights has the same plug there as well. The factory fog light switch is just a momentary button, the actual control of the fog lights is handled by the BCM (body control module), so I fear that it's not going to be as simple as as just tapping into that harness with the blue plug behind the headlight switch with a new aftermarket switch and then figuring out where the power comes out when it's energized.

I know that small control boards exist that can allow you wire up an aftermarket fog light circuit to the OEM switch. Search on Amazon or eBay for a "momentary to latching converter", "momentary to latching relay", "momentary to latching switch", something along those lines. It's basically a module that can convert the original momentary button output for the fog lights BCM signal to a toggled on/off output so that a simple relay circuit can be ran from it. That route at least lets to keep the dash clear of any aftermarket switches sticking out, but it's going to be a little more technically involved. You could certainly source a factory headlight switch with the fog light switch built in and do it that way, but the most simple and probably cost effective way of doing it would to be to just add in an aftermarket switch and power the system off of that.
