Hello all, When installing a new HO alternator, do I need to disconnect the positive cables from the battery?? I have a Big 3 upgrade installed. So, I have 2 additional wires to the battery negative and 1 additional wire to the battery positive. Would I have to take off my wires that connect to the battery positive?? The stock wiring and the big 3 wire from back of alterator power to battery positive, would I have to disconnect these? Or is it okay to leave any positive battery cables connected?? I was told you only have to disconnect the battery negative cables not the positives. But, I think this is a car without the big 3 upgrade. Any help will do. Thanks.

2000 chevy blazer 4dr 4x4, big 3 installed, Yellow top optima, brand new serp belt. Any other info you need let me know.

I would disconnect everything. No sense in frying your brand new alternator.

My new HO alternator will be here on friday. I will probably do the install right away. On the big 3 upgrade, does the wire from the battery positive to back of alternator need to be fused?? I heard that it does not and also heard it is safer to have it fused. Mine is not fused right now, works fine. As long as no metal is touching that wire I am good. I will dosconnect the neg of battery and then the pos battery when I install the new HO alternator. Now, when installing a new HO alternator, when all is installed and I go to start up the blazer, will it fire up on first try? Technically it should, right? With 900W RMS ampflifier, using a 185A HO alternator, Yellow Top battery under the hood and the big 3 upgrade in 1/0 AWG wiring, I should be good? Thanks.

It doesn't need to be fused.
