Default LED bulb question

OK,so I got pulled over for a burned out plate light bulb. I tried one of those LED replacement 194 ($8!) bulbs and 6 days later pulled over by the same cop for the same reason. Needless to say I was p***ed! Are these bulbs not compatible with these older electrical systems? I recall MANY years ago when halogen headlamps first became popular my 66 Chevy pick up would burn them rapidly. And yes the lamp housing is sound and water tight,I am hesitant to purchase another one of these...

Where did you get them? And did you check to make sure polarity was correct the first time?

I bought all my LED's from this site and have never had a problem with them.

LED's have a polarity. They have to go in a certain way. Also check the wiring of the socket.

I usually got mine from superbrightleds.com and didn't ever have a problem with them. But that being said, plug and play leds are known to have issues like that sometimes.

That was a Sylvania bulb-top quality-Why would I have to check for polarity on an LED when an incandescent works in either direction? HUH?

Are you serious, or just being sarcastic? If you are being serious:

LED stands for light emitting diode.

Straight off wiki.

A diode is a two terminal electrical component with asymmetric conductance, it has low (ideally zero) resistance to current flow in one direction, and high (ideally infinite) resistance in the other.

Meaning it will not allow flow of electricity in the wrong direction.

An incandescent is just a thin wire in a vacuum, so the resistance is the same either way you put power through it.

Also, I do not consider Sylvania a 'top quality' manufacturer, especially in led tech.

I have LEDs in my license plate lights as well. They took a bit of playing with to get them to seat right and to actually illuminate. Its not just as easy as plugging in and going like a normal bulb.

Mine were bulbs I got off ebay at the time, but they all still work fine.
