Default License Plate Lights Not Working

The other day my friend told me one of my license plate lights were out. I've never had a problem with them before so I just bought some new bulbs and replaced both lights. After doing so, the same light was still out. I followed the wires just to see if anything was wrong with them and didn't see anything noticeable.
I then began to just tug on the wires and move them around a bit and then the light that was out before came back on. Then the other light that was working before went out.
I started to get really pissed because both lights would not work at the same time, they just kept alternating as I moved the wires around.
If I move the wires in the right place, both lights will stay on but as soon as I let go, one of them will go out.
I have no problems anywhere else, all brake lights/reverse lights work.

I DON'T KNOW WHAT'S GOING ONN!!!!!
Can someone please help??!
Honestly, I'm just trying to avoid some dick cop giving me a ticket for the light being out.

Thanks, Andrew
