Hello there. I'm new in the forum (I'd my proper introduction in the new member area).
My problem: I'd replace the heater core in my 98 Blazer, and yes, taking out the dash was a PITA. But it worked OK. When assembly everything my cluster gauges dont work, only the volt and oil pressure gauges, check engine light works, and turn signals, but nothing else. And the radio dont work either, only the lights in the panel, and a/c also dont work, only light in the panel. When turning on the headlights, only the parking lights work. I checked the big connector inside the glove box,other connectors and everything looks fine.

One thing that occured: When connecting the negative terminal to the battery, the juction box started to make clicky sounds (like relay sounds) and the ignition coil give some spark. Checked the fuses (under the hood and inside) and seems to be all good.

Any ideas?

 

Perhaps this is connected but I had a weird electrical issue last summer that could be similar.

Long-story, short: A nickle (USA 5-cent piece) that I think had been inserted into the CD slot of the OEM radio by the previous owner's kids caused a short that stopped the radio from working along with many of the gauges in the instrument cluster. There was a single fuse that controlled these that would blow. I traced it to the radio and when I got it out is when I discovered the nickle.

 

That's weird. Mine has cassette slot, and stoped working (the stereo spit the cassette out). I though it could be the rubber band inside, those tend to fail over time but no, was intact.

I'm gonna check again the fuses, some can be possibly blown and I didn't notice.

And I was looking some wiring driagrams from BBB Industries and yes, one fuse power a lot of things in the dash. I really hope is a blown fuse. Spending a lot of time with a DVOM checking circuits it's a very boring way to spend the day.

 

You know now that I think of it, there was something funny with my remote cassette player too. If I remember correctly, when I tried to hook up the radio, it worked but when I added the connection for the remote cassette player, it would blow the fuse.

Try disconnecting the radio and the cassette player. I eventually solved my problem by getting a replacement OEM radio from a wrecking yard.

 

My Blazer doesn't have the remote cassette. After i checked again the fuses, I remove the bezel again.

 

And I broke it. You wouldn't believe the amount of curses and F words I throw. But It gives me the opportunity to reinforce it with fiber glass. My next proyect.

 

And I find the guilty one... was a unconnected wire tap. This one comes from the fuse box inside the dash board (driver's side) and was a PITA to try to reconnect, I have to take out the cluster again. I was afraid I had to take the dash panel out again.

The plastic bezel is SO CHEAP!!! I can't believe how thin and low quality it is. The bezel in 95-97 Blazers looks like more sturdy, just like the front grille. My grille broke with no reason. I'm gonna upload some pics of the repair also.

Now, my last problem, still no HVAC, the fan and A/C dont work.
