Hello, I have a few questions about an overhead console. I searched and read the 9 pages but never got a definite answer to this. I have a 97 4 door 4wd, I want to get a console. If I want one with MPG and other info, do i need to get one from a 95 - 97? And if i only want the compass and temp, can i get one from any year s10, bravada, ect.... Thanks

 

if you want one with mode and mpg... ect YES it MUST be from a pre 98 vehicle due to the pulses for speed and so on. if you want an on off one it can be any model.

 

Thats what i thought. Thank you very much. One last thing, a console with just the compass and temp does not use the vss, correct?

 

the one with the compass does use the vss signal, but only to keep the temp sensor reading accurate. it locks the temp where it is when there is no signal on it so that the radiatior does not mess it up, and when it picks up signal from driving it lets the temp sensor update the reading.

 

Sorry to butt in here, but I just happened to run across this. You said any PRE 98 vehicle for mpgs and other functions, but I have a 99 Blazer that has all those gizmos and gadgets in the overhead console. Yes I realize it is only one year difference, but I can say for sure that a 99 could have the same console with the mpgs and other displays as well, and I am not familiar enough with other years to know for sure.

As for radman2112, good hunting on finding one! I think the overhead consoles are pretty handy myself, and might I suggest that you get one with the mpgs and all? Then you could have all the goodies if you needed them, and if you didn't, you can always leave it on the compass and temperature Once again good luck!

 

99ls4x4ryanlw, you are able to get that console in later blazers, my 01 has it as well as the homelink, BUT the compatibility is what i am refering to. In order for them to work properly you have to have the correct computer display. 95-97 uses one display programed differently than a 98 and later models for the MODE system. If it is for an on/off display they can be used in any year.

 

bdennis1983, sorry for my previous post about the console. I had read your post wrong and assumed you had meant something else. I guess we all know what assuming does...(makes an "***" out of "u" and "me", or in this case, just me) But, on the other hand, I did learn something new about the consoles and blazers. Sorry once again
