Default Radio speaker problem

Hope someone can help me here. I've a 99 blazer I bought last year and knew the fade control did not let the rear speakers work. I have balance but no rear speakers working. I was told the problem is in the radio. I would think it would be the speakers, but why both of the rear ones. Could it really be a problem with the radio? By the way it's a stock radio with cd. thanks for any help
