Default Roof Mounted Light Bars/ where to route the wiring?

Hello everyone,

I am looking to add a light bar to my roof rack. I have a extremely clean Blazer ZR2 and I do not want to drill holes in the roof, has anyone ran wiring to the roof from another point other than drilling the roof? Or any ideas? I can not see running covered wires next to the windshield or the rear window, but I will look at any ideas.

I have thought about running a remote system with its own battery, relay and remote system in a action packer bolted to the roof rack.

Maybe drill a hole into the foot of the roof rack, and run the wires inside that way? Be a lot more labor intensive than just drilling a hole in the roof, but would be much cleaner. You would probably still have to drill a hole in the roof for the wire, but it would be hidden under the roof rack mount at least

I hid mine under the windshield weatherstripping down the passenger side. If you lift up on the side of the rubber stripping, you'll noticed there's a good little crevice with enough room to tuck the wires in. Can see about 4 inches of wire from the light bar to where it goes in behind the rubber and that is all.

This sounds like a great idea to me. I wish I had thought of it first.

I just mounted some roof lights, but I just drilled right through the roof, and siliconed the holes lol. I'm lazy

Another popular option is bulkhead connectors, typically found in the marine world.

If I ever get around to installing my roof rack and the forward, side, and rear facing LED bars that I want, I plan on using a single multi-wire (for relay signal wires) and two larger (for a 4 gauge power and ground) bulkhead connectors that can unplugged and then be capped off on the roof, if I ever need to pull the roof rack off quickly.

I use both of those type connectors in post 6. They work great in marine environments so off roading should be a breeze.

Tom, if I recall correctly, didn't you build your own roof rack?

This idea sounds very clean...I'd like to see it done.

I saw that Thule is offering a roof mounted basket now that incorporates LED lights. It didn't state how they're activated or wired.

Ok so I am going wireless. I’ll house a battery and remote wiring system with relay in a flat action packer type box. I’m going to add a small solar panel to it to maintain a charge. I will make it so I can remove it when it’s not needed and it will let me use it on my boat as well as my RZR. Once I have a rough version I will post it.
