Default Security Question

Been driving a 2000 LS 4 D/4WD w/out a key fob for a week now and I have some questions:
Are key fobs and security standard?
I checked all the RPO codes and didn't find anything that mentioned security options. Only "AU3" for electric locks, which work fine, but from the outside driver side door, the key only locks/unlocks that door, not the other 3 doors. I can only lock/unlock all the doors only from the rear gate.
I have a security light on the dash, that comes on during start up. I'm hopping that if I get a fob the auto door locks (all of them) and security system will work.
I suppose I'd have to go to a dealership to get it programed?
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Drew from San Jose

To answer your questions, I'm pretty sure you key should work on both the of the front doors. The security system was at least a very common option if not standard. According to my VIN RPO decode sheet I have the following security option on my 1999:
"AU0 LOCK CONTROL,REMOTE ENTRY(KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEM) REMOTE ENTRY LK CONT(AU0) 128,439" (This is 128k out of about 188k Blazers built for the 99 model year.) I also have this option that seems to go with the keyless entry: AU3 LOCK,SIDE DOOR,ELECTRIC ELEC S/D LK(AU3).

I purchased a second fob as a backup to have and it has worked fine although the printing on the buttons has worn off. I'm pretty sure I got it off of eBay as I have a pdf of an eBay page for ones that would be correct for my Blazer. I also have a file of instructions I downloaded. (Both of these files are attached.)

What you might need to do though is confirm the correct part number for the fob. Even if they are not available at the dealer, the dealer should be able to identify the correct part number for you. Some of the online GM parts websites will allow you to input your VIN and that will help identify the proper part number for the fob. (Using the VIN is also nice for finding the part numbers for cross-referencing other parts.)

From the title, I thought this was going to be something like, "What is your mother's maiden name?"

Thanks again Christine for the info on the FOB and RPO numbers. Yes, I also have the AU3 option (power locks) but I don't have the AUO keyless entry, so I assume I have no alarm/security system either.

Good one Tom, I had a good laugh at your comment.
