starting issue
I have a 2002 Chevy Blazer ZR-2. I am having a starting issue. It began with the battery being low. I tried using a jump box, but only got rapid clicks. I tried tightening up the negative and positive connections and tried again just one click. I tried using jumper cables from a running car, same results rapid clicking. I took off the negative and positive connections and cleaned them up. Reattached, tried both the jump box and jumper cables. No change. Charged the battery to full. Same results, just clicks. Located the starter relay. Pulled it out and did the wire bypass test, made sure I only put the wire in the correct location on fuse box. That resulted in a click. So I figured I had a bad starter. I disconnected the battery connections. Took of the nuts that are on the starter solenoid. Inspected them and cleaned them. Didn't reattach them, removed the starter. I did a bench test on the starter and it appears to work just fine. Before I reinstall the starter I got on this site to ask what am I missing? Is there some fuse or fuses that control the starter? Could it be bad terminal cables? Where do I need to check next? I appreciate any and all help I receive. Thank you.
Hi GeorgeLG. Thank you for your response. I made sure that my battery was fully charged. Then I reinstalled my starter.. I cleaned the connectors to the starter real well, wire brushed and steel wool. Reattached them. Then took out the positive and negative side pole bolts and cleaned them up real well as well as the ends of the battery cables. Then bolted the battery cables to my battery. Then did the starter relay bypass test, use a wire with both ends bare and insert them into the correct holes in the fuse box, and the starter worked this time. So I put the starter relay back in the fuse box in my Blazer and when I turned the key my Blazer started right up. So it would seem in my case, that corrosion on the battery cables at both ends was causing my starter not to work. I hope the process I followed both to diagnose the problem and actually fix it will be helpful to others experiencing the problem I had. I again thank members in this forum for their excellent and helpful guidance.
The starting issue is back. Today I tried to start my Blazer and nothing. I used a fully charged jump box and it took a few tries to get it to start. Then when I just let it idle for about 10 minutes. When I put it in drive it stalled. So I jumped it again with the jump box and then tried again to put it in drive and it kept running. So I took it for a ride because I had 4 incompletes on my code reader. No codes and no check engine light. The incompletes were catalyst, evap., oxygen sensor heater and oxygen sensor mon. This vehicles inspection is due this month, October. So I trying to get at least three incompletes to complete. In New York state it will pass with one incomplete and no check engine light on, no codes. As I said I let it idle for 10 mins but when I went to drive it stalled so I had to restart it with the jump box. After that I drove it and kept it at 55 for 5 mins then let it coast to zero not touching my brakes. No changes all 4 incompletes still incomplete. So I tried that again but just the holding it at 55 for 5 mins, no letting it idle for 10 mins first. Still no change. So then I just drove it around a few country roads at 35 mph or less and then my check engine light came on. Not what I wanted to have happen. It gave me a code of P0420 catalyst system efficiency below threshold bank 1. Now what do I have to do to get this car ready for inspection. I appreciate any help I get with this. Thank you.
This is a shot in the dark, but I had an issue once with a 92 I once owned 15+ years ago that gave O2 sensor errors. So I replaced the identified O2 Sensor only to have the error come back. Turned out the issue was with a gas leak under the plenum causing an over-rich burning that fouled the O2 sensors. I must have also had worsening gas mileage at the time, but I can't remember.
This taught me that the codes do not necessary identify the fault directly, but can give clues to what has actually failed.
Good Luck!

Hi GeorgeLG. I appreciate your help with my starting issues. I have a new problem. My brake line from the ABS box to my drivers side ft rusted through and started to leak. I have taken it off my 2002 Blazer ZR2. While removing it I noticed that the brake line from the ABS to the pax front is also rusty so I removed it as well. Do you know about a place where I can get pre-made brake line to replace those two lines that will have all of the swirls or coils in them or what length of pre-made brake line I can buy and then bend it to fit? I appreciate any help you can give me with this issue. Hv a gr8 day.
Greetings,
2001 zr2 Blazer. I get multiple clicks when I turn the key. Replaced Battery, starter, cellinoid...still multiple clicks. I'm unsure where to turn next.
