Default Timing issue

I replaced my intake gasket and now I can't my 2000 S10 blazer started. It is a 4.3L. I believe it is a timing issue. I followed these instructions
EDI Engine timing
and now it still won't run, but it is backfiring, so I think that is progress. Any ideas?

I'd say you need to follow the directions more closely. Sounds like you didn't get it timed correctly on your first attempt.

You are correct.

I went back through the procedure again and noticed that the 6 for a 6 cylinder engine was designated by a small triangle with a 6 in it, and was also 180 degrees from the number 1 cylinder. Diagram 1 is for 6 cyl and 2 is for 8 cyl

Started on the first try.
