Two-Way Radio Power Connection (2021 model year)
Hello,
I am planning on installing a two-way mobile radio (VHF/UHF) into my 2021 Blazer. General recommendation form the radio community is to not use a power outlet (cigarette lighter) or fuse tap but instead run a 12 or 10 gauge cable from the battery to the radio. There are warnings about connecting direct to the battery and some suggestions to connect to other places in the engine compartment. The problem with connecting directly to the battery I believe has something to do with the alternator on modern vehicles not delivering a continuous 13.8 volts to the the battery and also something about a device that monitors battery performance to allow the auto-engine-stop system to work.
I have not been able to find much information from Chevrolet on this. There is this bulletin, which is very informative, however dated 2014 so I am not sure if even applicable to my vehicle: https://www.gmupfitter.com/files/med...lletin_119.pdf . On page 3 they recommend connecting power to the "Auxiliary Power Terminal" or the "Special Equipment Option (SEO)". Does anyone know where these are located in the 2021 engine compartment?
Thanks.
