So one day i was driving and my alternator was bad and my battery died
we went and got a new alternator and jumped it off
and then I replaced the tensioner and the belt and now my volt gague will stay at 14 but it will wiggle within the 14 mark and it causes my headlights to slightly flash and I was wondering what y’all think is wrong because it did not used to do that
and I do not know if this is connected to it but before I replaced everything my jimmy would bog down in the rain and now it randomly does it even if it’s dry out idk if that will help but thought I would include it

 

if plug wires or distributor are shorting could they have taken out your alternator in the first place? on my 4.9 300 straight 6 it would bog down in the rain until I replaced cap and rotor, cap had a hairline crack.

 

My gauge need always wiggled with turn signal and loud stock stereo on... then with woofer it now wiggles more lol

 

but the only thing I do not get is why my headlights slightly blink

 

I knew I was forgetting something. My lights do that ever so slightly aswell...

I'm assuming it has to do with the little wires the trucks came with. I honestly think they should've came with something a little more heavier duty.

And then today I did a few pulls and one under a tunnel ( I’m 18 )and then my all gauges and radio started blinking and volt gague was wiggling a lot at 14 volts I don’t know if you can tell by the video of the lights blinking and headlights were flashing more than usual

 

I want to say that's normal... mine does the same thing.

not as fast, but my light flicker with any other power usage, including windows and horn lol

 

Switch all electrical systems off, A/C off, Vents off, lights off (except DRL) and take it for a ride of at least 30 - 45 minutes.

Alternatively hang the battery onto a charger.

Weak batteries can make these symptoms worse. As long as the engine is running you see around 14 Volts (that's the alternators charge voltage) but the weak battery takes the most of the load.

 

When you see the DCV go up and down a slight amount, that is normal. It is the voltage regulator doing it's job.The internal regulator on the GM alternators smooth out the voltage output of the alternator. Here below is an inexpensive digital voltage regulator that plugs into the DC volts receptacle aka 'the cigarette lighter' and tells you exactly what the voltage reg. output is to the tenth of a Volt. Note you can switch these between your cars and trucks. With the device in and the ignition key not on , it is reading your battery voltage. With the engine on and running, it is reading the actual output of the alternator and regulator. Mine will waver between say 13.8 VDC and 14.1 VDC. Now if you have enough fluctuation, it may mean some other problem such as a bad ground or a wiring problem. These devices often have a connection to charge your smart phone or tablet. They range from 6.99 to 19.99 and can be used in different vehicles. My dash Voltage gauge reads a steady 14 volts and doesn't fluctuate.
I am not recommending this specific model below. It is just the first on that popped up in my search. I like my dig. voltage and use it to tell when my battery needs a charge. I occasionally use the device to charge my phone on a trip.
