Default what is this wire

back when i had to get my engine rebuilt i got it back and they had soldered some wires together, but everything worked so i didnt really bother to figure it out, now im curious.

the single red wire is from the ALT, then it splits into a red and black wire. black wire goes to the + terminal on the batter, the red goes into a plug, then the other end of the plug has a red wire that goes to a cluster of wires but idk what excatly to.

Is that black wire the ONLY wire going from the alt to the batt +? If it is, you need a far larger wire for that.

im not worried about wire size being wrong, im wndering why the red wire from the alt splits into 2 wires instead of going from alt to batt.
